The Indian Marxist Communist Party, commonly referred to as the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M), is a political party in India that adheres to the principles of Marxism-Leninism. It advocates for the rights of workers, peasants, and the marginalized sections of society, pushing for policies that aim to reduce economic disparities, promote land reforms, and ensure social welfare and justice for all citizens. The party has been a staunch critic of neoliberal policies and globalization, which it views as detrimental to the economic sovereignty of India and the welfare of its people. It emphasizes the importance of secularism and unity against communal forces, considering the diverse and pluralistic fabric of Indian society.<br /><br />Over the years, the CPI(M) has played a significant role in Indian politics, especially in states like West Bengal, Kerala, and Tripura, where it has held governmental power at various times. While in power, the party has attempted to implement its policies through land reforms, education reforms, and efforts to improve healthcare and social welfare schemes, with varying degrees of success and criticism.<br /><br />The CPI(M) also places a strong emphasis on internationalism, standing in solidarity with global struggles against imperialism, colonialism, and neo-colonialism.
