Shiv Sena

The Shiv Sena is a regional Indian political party that was founded on June 19, 1966, by Bal Thackeray. It originated in the state of Maharashtra, primarily as a movement to advocate for the rights of the native Marathi-speaking population, known as Maharashtrians, against the perceived dominance of migrants from other Indian states. The name "Shiv Sena" pays homage to the 17th-century Maratha warrior king, Shivaji, symbolizing the party's emphasis on Marathi pride and cultural heritage.
