Learn more about Genetically Modified Foods

Genetically modified foods (or GM foods) are foods produced from organisms that have had specific changes introduced into their DNA using the methods of genetic engineering. The release of transgenic crops in India is governed by the Indian Environment Protection Act, which was enacted in 1986. India regulators cleared the Bt brinjal, a genetically modified eggplant, for commercialisation in October 2009. Following opposition from some scientists, farmers and environmental groups a moratorium was imposed on its release in February 2010  See recent genetically modified foods news
