Reservation in India is the process of setting aside a certain percentage of seats (vacancies) in government institutions for members of backward and under-represented communities (defined primarily by caste and tribe). Reservation is a form of quota-based affirmative action. Reservation is governed by constitutional laws, statutory laws, and local rules and regulations. Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) are the primary beneficiaries of the reservation policies under the Constitution – with the object of ensuring a "level" playing field.

I find the current reservation system to be inadequate to address the concern and Marginalization is a more complex phenomenon, that now needs an intersectional approach to be understood and addressed. Merely caste-based reservation may not solve the issue at the root.
@979XN3F 9mos9MO
Yes, but there should be more limits and restrictions on the current rates
@979XN3F10mos10MO
Yes, but there should be more limits on the current rates
@9CRC8KGBharatiya Janata10mos10MO
Yes but reforms are needed
@9CQW3Q8Bharatiya Janata10mos10MO
Only for SC and ST. Not for OBC
@9CQTP72Bharatiya Janata10mos10MO
Yes for SCs - with limitations of time, creamy layer etc. No for others
For SC and ST yes, for OBC no
@9CQ9GZ5Bharatiya Janata10mos10MO
It should be 10% for obc, 15% for SC and ST each i.e. 40% . But only for the economically weaker. And empty quota seats will be filled from common list
@9CQ7P9XIndependent10mos10MO
Yes. As long as caste discrimination exists, reservation is the only way to not further marginalise the already disenfranchised people. If there is no discrimination, then there won't be a need for a caste based reservation. Then the metric would be more socio-economic than caste.
@9CQ57WM10mos10MO
Yes, but only for civil services. No for science, tech and engineering.
@9CPYSXB10mos10MO
Local governments should have more power with regards to reservations. I am against reservations in all India entrance tests and so on.
@92M7ZS2Independent2yrs2Y
Yes, but we should try to eliminate this system in coming decades.
@8YNBS7J2yrs2Y
no, but only highly risked communities either socially or economically should get reserved and the benefits should expire economically uplifted backward castes.
@8XKWG9B2yrs2Y
No but for economically backward class
Yes and until discrimination ends. Not just in books, but in real life.
@8VWC87LBharatiya Janata3yrs3Y
Yes, until they become financially stable.
@8T6RZVXIndependent3yrs3Y
Reservation should be based on economic background alone. And while we're at it, we might as well get rid of the caste system entirely, and integrate people of 'lower' castes into broader society. One way of doing this would be to integrate children of 'lower' castes into the same academic institutions that children of socially better placed parents attend, and if they are unable to pay the school fees, a scholarship system should be put in place for them.
Yes, but benefits should expire for obcs after 2 generations
@8S9YNV6Independent3yrs3Y
Yes, but revisit the caste status and renew the reservation criteria regularly
Yes, caste-cum-economic based reservation system so that rich people from lower caste do not get the benefit
@8RM83JHBharatiya Janata3yrs3Y
No, instead keep reservations based on their economic status rather than their caste.
@8M6PXFW4yrs4Y
Yes, but it should be stricter and monitored better to ensure only the low income and needy groups benefit.
It should not exceed a fixed percentage for instance 35% or 37%.
@8Q29ZJB3yrs3Y
No, the caste system itself should be eradicated and economic position based reservations must be given along with controlling the birth rate.
@8PSMK97Bharatiya Janata3yrs3Y
Reservation is essential but the creamy layer concept should be made applicable
@8P92G29Bharatiya Janata3yrs3Y
Yes, but economic status of lower castes also should be considered to ensure benifits of reservation to the poorest sections.
Upliftment of historically disadvantaged castes at the grassroot level.
@SCQ2L44yrs4Y
Yes, but it should be based on finacial status and not caste. There are several SC's ST's who are wealthy and still misuse the caste-based reservation.
@SCMJMH4yrs4Y
No reservation of any kind
@SCLQFV4yrs4Y
Combination of economic criterion, very verifiable caste based reservation and bound to one generation and / or proof of socio-economic advancement / betterment
@SBYJS24yrs4Y
make it irrelevant by increasing opportunities
@SBVY724yrs4Y
No. But support time-bound reservations based on the Economic Criteria for the very low income groups.
@SBCTX54yrs4Y
Reservations are needed but the beneficiaries need to be properly identified. Focus must be on empowering through quality education from the primary classes not by offering reservations on a higher level
@SB9LGW4yrs4Y
Difficult to do away with caste based reservation entirely for now. We should start enabling backward community and this is a long process before we can let go of caste based reservations
@S9SFBR4yrs4Y
Yes, but people who have already benefited with the reservations should stop using it for their next generation. The whole purpose of reservation is to get the downtrodden on par with others.
@S9L9NK4yrs4Y
Yes, but with creamy layer exclusion.
