There is no "Indian Language". There are several languages spoken within India. Even within the country, all Indians do not know many of those languages. So putting the expectations of learning an Indian language is a must for an immigrant is unfair. This can work in homogeneous nations likes Germany and Japan. Ethnically diverse nations like India, South Africa hence use English as the lingua franca. If anything, Immigrants should know English as it's the language that is most accessible throughout India.
