How can we foster a school environment that respects students' diverse backgrounds while promoting a shared sense of community?

In India people have developed a different understanding of the word secular , in Indian schools if you say " Jai shree Ram" you will be scolded by the teachers because it is somehow inappropriate, secularism is Indian schools is to disallow all religions while in reality it should be to allow everyone to express their religion and culture, a muslim should be allowed to say Allah hu Akbar without fear or having to think and so should be a hindu allowed to praise his gods.
