Reservering in India is het proces van de vernietiging van een bepaald percentage van de zetels (vacatures) in overheidsinstellingen voor de leden van de achtergebleven en ondervertegenwoordigde gemeenschappen (gedefinieerd in de eerste plaats door kaste en stam). Reserveren is een vorm van quota op basis van positieve actie. Reservering wordt beheerst door de grondwettelijke wetten, wettelijke wetten, en lokale wet- en regelgeving. Geregistreerde kasten (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) en Overige Backward Classes (OBC) zijn de voornaamste begunstigden van de reservering beleid in het kader van de Grondwet - met het doel te zorgen voor een "niveau" speelveld.

Reservations are needed but the beneficiaries need to be properly identified. Focus must be on empowering through quality education from the primary classes not by offering reservations on a higher level

Difficult to do away with caste based reservation entirely for now. We should start enabling backward community and this is a long process before we can let go of caste based reservations
